The Zapotec Sun

At the heart of each piece lies the diamond-shaped sun, a powerful motif derived from traditional Zapotec cosmology. This emblem, while deeply rooted in the historical narrative of the Zapotecs as a representation of the sun, has evolved in my work to embody the concept of the world and our place within it—as if each of us stands as the axis mundi, the central axis around which the universe itself unfolds
